4 Tips to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse

Race the Dead 2017-Survive the Night returns on 18 March 2017, at Sentosa’s Siloso Beach.

The zombie craze has never left us. It was huge in 2012 and it stayed with us, like the festering storyline of dead eyed souls chased by zombies in the Walking Dead.

But what happens if the zombie apocalypse starts in real life?

Well, you would have to take it seriously, so training is a must. However, neighbours would not be happy if you chose to burst into their houses searching for the undead and shooting at them.

Luckily, we do have a solution: Zombie Runs.

Race the Dead 2017-Survive the Night will be back on the 18th March 2017, at Sentosa’s Siloso Beach. Entry fees start at $49.90, and participants will get the chance to simulate an environment where the zombies climb out of the ground to run the night once again.

The idea is to make sure you don’t get tagged out by the zombies and let them feast on your delicious soft flesh. So when you train, make sure you train in that way in order to stay the course.

Know your location

What kind of terrain will you be running in? Will you be venturing on hard concrete? Unpredictable sand? Easy to sink in mud? Where are the possible obstacles that lie in wait?

The race route for Race the Dead stretches 4.2km along Sentosa Siloso Beach towards Tanjong Beach. They have even thrown in multiple routes from start to finish so that participants will get scattered throughout the area and not congregate at one spot all the time.

What you need to do is make sure you do your research. Go to the location beforehand, figure out which shoes work when running on sand, and see previous editions to see what kind of obstacles they had the last time to figure how to overcome them.

Always stay mobile

There are different types of zombies and they rely on muscle memory and instinct rather than any actual strategizing. Thus, you will not be able to predict what moves a zombie would make.

What we recommend in this run is not to run in a straight line, but to run laterally, doing circuits of workouts that work on moving in zig zag patterns. It may take more effort out of you, but it would work when you are being challenged by a bunch of zombies coming at you from different directions.

Next, staying in one area is not a good idea. Obstacles are your frenemy in this run. The race route will have obstacles littered all over the course for you to climb over or hide behind. They can conceal you for a short period of time, but you cannot stay there forever. So, take short bursts to run behind a big obstacle and take the opportunity to rest, but don’t rest there for too long.

Group yourself

Safety is awesome in numbers. And you can do so too when you’re doing a zombie run.

Your survival rates would rise higher if you ran around the zombie hunting ground with a team. You can do so if you enter Race the Dead in teams of four or more. You can either get the group to work together and finish altogether or betray your team by using them as bait for the zombies.

The best part of running around in teams is that you can get a 10 per cent discount off the tickets if you go together, which is a huge bonus if you want to reserve your funds for further zombie exploits

Become a zombie

Well, no one said you couldn’t survive if you were part of the enemy horde. The Race the Dead 2017 are always looking for zombies to help take down the pesky humans who insist on being part of the winning team.

For $59.90, zombie participants can get free makeup application and costumes to run in when coming after the humans if you choose to be a zombie.

Take the opportunity to attack and snack on lovely human flesh, chasing down the participants who want to survive. Make sure they don’t.
