The 6th edition of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay is back for its 6th edition!
The Promontory @ Marina Bay will be the set of immersive team-building experiences from more than 150 teams, all from the city’s leading institutions. On the 25th of October, participants will be competing to win the coveted trophy in groups of ten, and to become members of the ‘fastest firm in the city.’
Of the teams participating, defending champions Macquarie are hoping to retain their title for the 6th year running. They will be facing heated competition from teams such as the ones from Standard Chartered and GIC, whose teams finished second and third respectively in last year’s edition. It’s considered one of the bigger standards in the corporate calendar amongst most huge international corporations in Singapore.
Runners each run 1.6km (or a mile), and passing the baton on to the next member, who will continue by running the next part of the race, culminating in a total of 16km per team.
This year, the event has teamed up with local sport-for-development organisation Sport Cares to harness the power of sport to address a key challenge truly unique to the city.
Participants in the event will vote to decide which cause The Extra Mile will support this year, and have the choice of the following issues:
1) Bridging inequality – To help at-risk youth build aspirations to change their lives through sport.
2) Promoting inclusivity – To engage people with disabilities through sports initiatives.
3) Promoting good health and well-being – To create common spaces and curated activities that allow underprivileged children and youth to enjoy sporting activities.
Once chosen, the relay community will have a chance to volunteer in an interactive and exciting activity that addresses the winning challenge and kicks off the yearlong support of The Extra Mile.
