The 26th edition of SAFRA Singapore Bay Run & Army Half Marathon returns on 26th August and is a running tradition jointly organised by SAFRA and the Army to bring SAF active servicemen, NSmen and their families together to keep fit and bond as they train and run together.
With a combination of competitive and non-competitive categories, it encourages camaraderie and reminds people what National Service means to the participants. The race route will pass several iconic landmarks such as the new financial district, Marina Bay Sands, The Helix, Gardens by the Bay, Sports Hub and the Singapore Flyer.
That doesn’t mean that you have to wait for August to arrive to get into any sporting action. Participants who register for the race would be able to join a series of training clinics held by SAFRA for free.
From May to August this year, participants can sign up for programmes meant to help train and support them in their fitness journey and tailored for various run categories ranging from lead-up runs and Soldier Strong coaching programmes for long-distance runners to fitness talks and fun workouts.
The coaching workshops are conducted by the Singapore Army’s Centre of Excellence for Soldier Performance (CESP), set up as part of the Singapore Army’s Soldier Strong effort. Using a data-driven approach adapted from military training, the CESP has designed a programme where participants will learn about injury mitigation, running preparation, periodisation, resistance training, running psychology, and nutrition and hydration over six sessions. Lead-up sessions for runners participating in the 21km Army Half Marathon and SAFRA 10km Race will progressively increase in distance with each session, to ensure that you will be confidently ready on race day.
Entry to the race also opens a whole avenue for active lifestyle activities, and if you are looking to enjoy a more leisure preparation for this year’s event, there are fun workouts to work up a sweat with Zumba, Piloxing and Dance Party sessions.
To reserve a place in these sessions, all you have to do after registering for this year’s run is to sign up through the link provided in your confirmation slip.
Limited slots are available on a first-come-first-served basis so do register early.
