On the 20th November 2019, a social run was planned by the Tribal Singapore team in collaboration with Running Lab Singapore and The Working Capitol to encourage more people to pick up running. It was also a great opportunity to introduce the new face of the running shoe market to our local community of runners – ON Running.
Located at a quaint cross junction further up from the hustle and bustle of the renowned Maxwell Food Centre and Chinatown street, The Working Capitol (TWC) is an ideal location for working adults and aspiring start-ups looking for a conducive environment to hold a meeting near town. During a tour of the place a few months back, the Tribal team was immediately charmed by its rustic yet stylish interior and the lovely co-sharing spaces scattered around their premises. With help from the TWC Marketing team, we identified several potential event sites and eventually settled on the cosy pantry that sat at level two of the "main block" along Keong Saik Road. With a lovely venue secured and interesting run route planned out by our run leaders, the team was optimistic about the event, having garnered a great response from online registration.
But alas, come Wednesday, the heavens had other plans and decided to open in a demonstration of our region's famous tropical conditions. Despite the drizzle that was gradually picking up outside the event space, a total of 15 determined participants still streamed in before 6pm to brave the inclement conditions and clock their midweek mileage.
At 6pm sharp, Amir (Running Lab SG) kicked things off with a simple introduction about the ON Running brand and the unique Cloud Technology that was discovered by co-founder Olivier Bernhard (Three time Duathlon WC and multiple Ironman Winner) and now so widely used by both pros and amateurs alike. The event was also an ON Shoe Trial and participants got to lace up in either the Cloud X, Cloud Ace or Cloud Flyer in their registered sizes to experience running ON clouds.
The rain failed to dampen the spirit of the athletes as they embarked on their 5km (Three Bridges) and 10km (Five Bridges) routes respectively. The run brought the runners along the bustling Neil and South Bridge Road before crossing Elgin and Anderson Bridge.
By now the skies had miraculously cleared and we stopped to take a group shot just before the two groups split ways with the 5km Runners returning to TWC via Cavenagh Bridge, and the 10km runners continuing ahead to complete the scenic Marina Bay loop via the Esplanade and Helix Bridge.
Despite the wet roads and humid conditions, everyone was in good spirits as we passed by the many key icons of the bay – all decked out in Christmas deco and lighting – and bumped into many other runners and friends who emerged along the route to make use of the rain-free window the heavens had bestowed upon us!
Following the end of the run, the runners were treated to some isotonic drinks and snacks during the cool-down / networking session before we took a group photo to close the event. The well-decked facilities at TWC also meant the runners were able to shower and freshen up before leaving. The ON Social Run wouldn’t have been a success without the strong support from our partners, TWC, Running Lab Singapore and the amazing participants. We hope to see all of you at our next TRIBE event!
