In a surprise announcement today, Ironman has confirmed all the routes for the 2019 Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon, four months before the event weekend.
This is in contrast to previous years, where the route is typically finalised much closer to the race day itself.
Thanks to the staggered starting times and days, all race categories will share the same starting point for the first time in the history of the Singapore Marathon. The three-day event from 29 November - 1 December will feature a Kids Dash on Friday evening, Marathon and Half Marathon on Saturday evening and finally end with 5km and 10km categories on Sunday morning.
The organisers have revealed that they consulted with crowd management experts from the Manchester Metropolitan University to design the best possible race route experience, based on their experience in working with the Abbott World Marathon Majors.
The marathon route is broadly similar to the 2018 edition, but with key strategic improvements. Also, with the event moving to the evening hours, lighting on the Marathon route will be increased to providing athletes with optimal visibility.
Volunteer participation will also be doubled from 2018, ensuring a smooth dispensation of water and various other hydration products at the aid stations.
Ironman is actively working with the communities and organisations that will be affected by the route, and way finding signs will be put up in advance to inform the public of impending road closures, providing them with ample time to plan alternative travel routes. An important point that has been addressed is that routes to emergency and essential services such as hospitals shall remain directly accessible throughout the duration of the event.
Race slots for the Half Marathon have already sold out, with limited entries for the Marathon category still remaining. Registration is still open and runners can enjoy discounted signup rates from now until 30 September 2019.
