Have you considered a vacation from the country after the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon at the end of the year? Feeling a little bit aimless after the SCSM and experiencing a lull so boring that you just want to get back on the run? Think of this opportunity to make a fun time out of it… at the Phukethon.
This three-Day festival (starting from the 8th of December 2017 to the 10th) is a guaranteed draw for runners who want a chance to run overseas, with stunning scenery for those who have grown a little too accustomed to Singapore’s skyline while running the same old routes again and again.
With Phukethon, runners are guaranteed a fun time. The events are spaced out over the course of three days, and unlike other runs, each of the distances are done in separate areas, to showcase every aspect of Phuket’s charm and history.
The Marathon distance is known as the Cape Route, and the half marathon category is the Bay Route. Both are great routes showcasing the lovely sea and scenery Phuket has to offer. The 10km category is not to be outdone with a route running through the old historic town in Saphan Hin, aptly named The Old Town Route.
The 5km Jelly Beach Run is one of the runs you should look into if you are not into long distances, with the route running through the beach and giving experienced runners the extra challenge of running on sand.
The whole festival is not restricted to running. Participants can also join the food and music festival after the Jelly Beach Run, and the race expo is expected to be one of the biggest in the region, with vendors selling sports gear catered towards runners of all abilities and levels.
A tourism package is also up for runners who might want to make a proper holiday out of the event, where you can go on organised tours taking you through the culture and streets of Phuket once your run is over.
