Gain the Edge at the District Race

Planning ahead for your first District Race in Singapore

RUN SINGAPORE BY | UPDATED 7 YEARS AGO

Did you sign up for Singapore’s first District Race experience that is happening this weekend? There’s less than a day to go to our first urban exploration race!

If you haven’t heard, the District Race is a free-roaming urban racing experience where participants can immerse themselves in the lion city’s exciting neighbourhoods through augmented reality challenges and activities.

In this race, speed alone is not enough. Planning ahead is key, as participants will need to earn as many points as possible within two short hours. Here are a few tips to help you optimise your time and fun. Ready, get set, go!

Strategise, strategise, strategise

Unlike other races, District is not just about speed, but how many points you score by the end of the race. With no fixed path and 80 virtual checkpoints to cover, you will need to map out an efficient route. The Grid is released 12 hours before the day of the race so plan your intended course so you will know where to charge or cruise.

Fuel and hydrate efficiently

Hydration ahead of race day is key. If you plan on eating before the race, choose something you’ve eaten before to avoid upsetting your stomach. If you need an extra boost during the race, grab a light snack at select convenience stores when you tap and go with a contactless payment device like Mastercard. Check the District mobile application for exclusive discounts.

Localise yourself

While you are not expected to be a geography expert, knowing the iconic landmarks or features of District’s five-race areas - Chinatown, Downtown, The Garden, Kallang and Uptown - can help you sail through the race’s checkpoints. As you solve challenges and score points, take time to stop and smell the neighbourhood roses. You will never know what you will discover!

Travel light

District is powered by cutting-edge location-enabled Augmented Reality, so all you will need are your smartphone, running shoes and sense of adventure. Shed more cumbersome weight and leave your wallet at home! The race area has plenty of contactless-enabled merchants so you are free to pay for your fuel with your smartphone or wearable device.

The more, the merrier

While you will be able to sail through District’s challenges solo, it’s probably more fun and efficient to do so with friends. Plus, you’ll have more brains to solve the challenges with!
