We may all love running and for some of us, our bucket list may include running a marathon and standing on the podium, having attained our personal best.
However, factors can stand in the way of this goal. Some of us are afraid of crowds. Some of us cannot afford to run a marathon. Some of us have crippling social anxiety. And that’s fine and should never keep you out of running 42.12 km.
This is when a virtual run comes in.
A virtual race is basically a run that can be run in any location, whether in a local park, the treadmill of a gym, participate in another race or even walked! After that run, you can submit your race distance and timing over to the organisers, and you will be able to receive your medal.
It’s all still legit, of course: You still have to sign up for the virtual run event, the timing is measured by impartial sources such as your fitness tracker/watch/treadmill, and when you’re done, and you send the details in, a medal gets shipped to you so you can brag that you have done the run.
It may seem like a way to beat the conditions of a regular race, but it’s a more inclusive way of running that has never been done before, and allows people to do it at their own pace, and at their own time.
It also brings more people together. Friends and families can run together in a virtual run even if separated by time and space. They will still be able to check their timings out in the website leaderboards, and in the end, they will still be able to run together.
Finally, it also means that some people can still be able to participate in races they deeply care about, especially for races that support certain causes, but are unable to attend because of lack of time or not being able to be on location.
If you are into these reasons, get searching to a virtual race you think will suit you and start running!
