Gracing the 2023 New Year in style, the Salonpas Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Marathon returned for its 10th edition on 7th January 2023 and 8th January 2023. With the flag-off at Phu My Hung, the race saw participation from more than 10,000 local and foreign runners over the weekend.
The HCMC Marathon features a road-racing format with the usual categories of 5km, 10km, 21km Half Marathon and 42km Full Marathon. Children were also seen competing in the 1500m and 500m races.
Marking its 10th Year Anniversary and 6 years since the Full Marathon category was first introduced, there was a total prize of USD 29, 825 for this year’s event.
Van Tuan Le, an elite runner, was the first to finish the Full Marathon distance at a time of 2h 32min 40s and claim the overall title. Coming in the second position for the same category was Thanh Hoang Nguyen at a time of 2h 33min 47s.
In the women’s race, Hoa Hoang Thi Ngoc emerged as champion for the Full Marathon with a timing of 3h 5min 43s while Thi Duong Nguyen came in second with 3h 17min 51s.
Phillip Nguyen, Co-founder of race organisers Pulse Active said, "It’s a wonderful 10 year’s celebration. The great 10 years celebration and it’s a great feeling to be here and with the community and seeing the runners. The day went well, the weather is beautiful today.”
The HCMC Marathon has been gaining popularity over the years as runners are attracted to running through the streets of the vibrant city, south of Vietnam.
